Koppal  : As part of the World Tuberculosis Day celebration, a special awareness march was held at the Koppal district headquarters on Tuesday and the achievers who achieved success under the National Tuberculosis Eradication Program were felicitated at a stage program.
The district-level World Tuberculosis Day awareness march organized at the city’s old district hospital premises was flagged off by District Tuberculosis Eradication Officer Dr. A. Shashidhara. The march started from the old district hospital premises and proceeded through the city’s central bus stand, Dr. Simpi Linganna Road, Diwater Circle, Jawahar Road and Sahitya Bhavan.
*Stage Program:* Koppal District Administration, Zilla Panchayat, District Health and Family Welfare Department, District Tuberculosis Eradication Center, Taluk Health Officer’s Office and various departments and organizations organized the district-level World Tuberculosis Day program at the city’s Sahitya Bhavan in collaboration with comedian and Tuberculosis Eradication Program Ambassador Gangavathi Pranesh and spoke, saying that in the past, tuberculosis was a fatal disease and many people used to die of tuberculosis. However, now the awareness and awareness of tuberculosis is increasing among the people and if tuberculosis is treated, it can be completely cured.
District Tuberculosis Eradication Officers Dr. Shashidhar A. He said in his introductory speech that the 2026 World Tuberculosis Day program is being celebrated with the slogan “Yes, under the leadership of India, with the power of the people, we can eliminate tuberculosis”. In the year 2025, there was a special achievement in detecting tuberculosis patients, especially in detecting sputum-positive tuberculosis patients by the government and private sectors. The sputum test of 8 rapid and primary tuberculosis detection machines and 16 TrueNau machines in the district along with X-ray detection has facilitated good achievement in the year 2025. The main reason for this is the many schemes launched by the Health and Family Welfare Department to prevent the spread of tuberculosis such as differentiated care model, inpatient screening program in hospitals, T.B. Thursday, Nikshay Divas, tuberculosis-free schools and tuberculosis-free workplaces.
Apart from this, the District Collectors, Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officers and District Superintendents of Police have cooperated with the National Tuberculosis Eradication Programme by adopting two tuberculosis patients each and providing them with nutritious food kits worth Rs. 1000 for six months till the completion of treatment, thereby setting an example for everyone. For this, I would like to thank them through this platform.
Mukunda Sumi Special Steels Limited, New Kanakapura Factory, said that they have made a significant contribution to the National Tuberculosis Eradication Programme by providing 1000 nutritious food kits worth Rs. 10,00,000 to tuberculosis patients.
District Health and Family Welfare Officer Dr. T. Lingaraju, who presided over the programme, said that although the officers and staff of the Health Department are performing their duties under pressure, they can reduce their stress by giving at least some time to their hobbies. He expressed his gratitude to the former District Magistrate Nalin Atul and Chief Executive Officer Rahul Ratnam Pandey for the increase in the number of tuberculosis cases detected due to the district administration providing 4 CBINAT machines under the Kalyana Karnataka Rural Development Board grant. He said that the state has secured first place in tuberculosis detection by involving all the staff from the field level in the district in the eradication of tuberculosis.
Om Prawal Singh, Plant Head of Mukunda Sumi Special Steels Limited, New Kanakapura Factory, said that India is largely affected by TB disease at the global level. He expressed his gratitude to the Health Department Chief for providing this opportunity by stating that the world will be tuberculosis-free by 2030.
Speaking at the event, Tet Suya Hori (Co-CEO Japan) of the same factory thanked us for our involvement in the eradication of tuberculosis and said that our organization will continue its cooperation in the future.
*Favourites awarded under the National Tuberculosis Eradication Program:* On this occasion, the health department staff, private doctors, Nikshay friends and others who have performed well under the National Tuberculosis Eradication Program were awarded with prizes.
