\nThe Koppal BJP rural mandal staged a unique protest in the city on Thursday, demanding immediate compensation for farmers who have grown various horticultural crops including bananas and leaves in various villages of the taluk and suffered losses due to rain and wind. As per Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal, BJP leaders staged a protest in a different manner on bicycles and electric bikes with the aim of creating awareness among the people about the increasing energy consumption in the country, the need to reduce dependence on petrol-diesel and environmental protection.<\/p>\n

The BJP leaders, who gathered at Ashoka Circle in the city, went from there to the DC office on bicycles and electric bikes to create environmental awareness among the citizens. Later, the BJP leaders along with the farmers tried to lay siege to the District Administration Building. At this time, the police stopped other leaders including VPA member Hemalatha Nayak, the immediate past candidate of Koppal Lok Sabha constituency Basavaraj Cavatar. Later, BJP leaders who sat on a dharna in front of the district administration building expressed their anger against the government’s policy of delay. They also shouted slogans against the irresponsible local MLA Raghavendra Hitnal and condemned the functioning of the administration. Finally, an appeal was submitted to Additional District Commissioner Siddarameshwar, who reached the spot.<\/p>\n

At this time, Legislative Council member Hemalatha Nayak said that although farmers had invested lakhs of rupees in growing one acre of banana crop, the crop they had received was completely damaged due to untimely rains and wind. This has created a situation where the families of farmers are facing financial difficulties and are worried about their lives.<\/p>\n

Therefore, they demanded that a comprehensive crop damage survey be conducted immediately and fair compensation be given. Leader Basavaraj Cavatar said,
\nThe situation of farmers in the state is worrying. In Koppal taluk, horticulture crops have been destroyed due to pre-monsoon rains.<\/p>\n

The situation of farmers who had written off loans and grown various crops including bananas and leaves is not looking good.
\nMLA Hitnal, who should have taken the initiative in this matter and brought it to the attention of the government and provided compensation to the farmers, is not fulfilling his responsibility.<\/p>\n

Farmers are the breadwinners of the country. The government should immediately respond to the plight of farmers in the sense that if the farmers survive, the country will survive.<\/p>\n

He demanded that compensation money should be deposited directly into the bank accounts of the farmers, not just promises.<\/p>\n

Also, the monsoon is about to start soon, and fertilizer distribution should be done properly. He also urged the district administration to conduct extensive publicity about the products available at the farmer contact centers.<\/p>\n
