Project Necessity.

  1. The project stretch connects three National Highways ieNH-4, NH-13 and NH-17. The project stretch passes through major district headquartersieGadag,Koppal,Hubli-Dharwad city to Hospet town. The project stretch passes through the mineral rich belt and is home for many iron and steel industries.
  2. There are many towns and settlements along the corridor like, Hubli, Annigeri, Gadag, Lakkundi, Koppal and Hospet etc. Kirloskar Steels, Hospet Steels and other major industries are abutting the corridor. The initial and end section abuts agriculture land.
  3. On this stretch of road, due to inadequate geometry of the existing alignment and considering the traffic, it necessitated improvement of the geometric standard along with provision of bypass, realignments and project facilities like grade separators, vehicular underpass, service roads etc, considering safety aspects of road users.
  4. Numerous industries are coming up in the project vicinity which will enhance the economic growth of the area.
  5. Considering the above mentioned factors, thepotentialtraffic growth and the possible development of both immediate and broader project influence areas, the stretch demanded up-gradation and capacity augmentation along with improved geometrics and introduction of bypasses, bus bays, truck lay-byes, wayside amenities and other facilities.
  6. Accordingly, the project was proposed for improvement to four lane standard with rigid pavement.
